Fishers, Indiana resident Nia Cannon is thrilled when her 16-year-old daughter, Shanta, is asked to the Homecoming Dance. It's Shanta's first date, but Nia and her ex-husband are startled when they meet the young man. Eldridge "El" Elias is just as self-assured and charming as Shanta described, but he isn't black. Worried that her daughter might be hassled by schoolmates for dating outside her race, at the last minute Nia decides to attend the dance herself. The last thing she expects to find there is romance...
Michael Elias figures he's in for an evening of boring small talk with faculty and other parents at his son's high school, but he signed up to be a chaperone because he wants to make sure his son behaves himself. When he arrives he is enchanted by a gorgeous but nervous-appearing brown-skinned beauty lingering outside. He offers her assistance, and suddenly the evening has the potential to be much more enjoyable....
As their attraction to each other deepens, Michael and Nia soon learn the special challenges that come from adults trying to forge a relationship when their teenage children are dating each other...

I've enjoyed several books by the author (If These Walls Could Talk, Trouble Down the Road, The People Next Door, etc.) because the plots and dialogue seemed so realistic. However, this book was a disappointment in that the entire scenario was very unrealistic (especially the ending) and made the book seem more suitable for a pre-teen. Specifically, the lack of conflict between the Nia (protagonist) and her ex-husband was incredible; lack of bitter conflict between the Nia and Shanta, the daughter was unbelievable; and the most unrealistic aspect of the plot was the Michael and his parents' immediate, genuine affection for Nia. Call me a pessimistic, but this book did not come up to the standards I have come to expect from this author.Product details

That A Wrap eBook Bettye Griffin Reviews
I forwarded to the end of this book up don't even know what happened in between that's how awful the book was what a waste of time and money
A man who knows what he wants and goes after it with charm and finesse. Love certainly doesn't discriminate. Another good read from Ms. Griffin.
What a beautiful story about a mature couple. I love that they were interracial, but also a very HUMAN couple with everyday issues like teenagers going through lust. The entire situation was handled delicately and with a lot of CLASS which this author displays in all of her novels. I would love to see Nia and El in about 5-6 years, all grown up and hopefully more mature. I highly recommend this book..
I liked the hero. A man who knows his mind with sex appeal and caring confidence. They had a interested 1st impression story, but instant attraction was hard to overlook. The maturity of this story was a good find and sprinkle in sexy couples with teens to manage made this A GOOD STORY!!!
Michael and Nia are two parents whose children are interested in each other. They want to attend a school dance together. Things take off from there. Now's daughter is the typical 16 yr old with all the up and down feelings of a teenager. When things don't go her way, she wants to make her mom suffer. Nina being divorced for over 10 yrs has finally met someone she is very interested in, he happens to be the father of the young man her daughter is interested in. Should she continue to put her life on hold, when Michael is clearly interested in her. Michael convinces Nia that he wants her and their children's situation will work itself out. Good book.
I really enjoyed reading this story and I love the fact that the hero and heroine were in their forties. Some many love story feature younger people, so this was a very refreshing story. Michael was amazing.
I hope Bettye will write a story for Shanta and El, yes I can see them falling in love with each other past their teenage a years. I can see what Michael said coming to past; El jealous over someone Shanta is dating, because he now see her in a different light.
I liked this story. Nia is a single mother who hasn't seriously dated in a while. Her daughter gets involved with a popular boy in school. Her mom is alittle concerned because this young man is different from others she would have expected Shanta to date. She follows her on her 1st date ever and meets a handsome man who intrigues her very much. He too(Michael) is very attracted to Nia.
Their relationship is laced with doubt, questions, and a heavy attraction. Will they choose to go against what most people would have for them or succumb to the pressure? It was a great read and I enjoyed it immensely. There were some questions, I had about Michael but maybe Ms. Griffin will pick up their lives again for a sequel.
I have read this author before and she writes very well. The characters are not 20-30 year olds. I appreciate this in this story. Would definitely recommend to all...
